  • The Marbella City Council has extended until 2027 the authorization of the use of the Nagüeles Quarry to the Starlite Festival, which has generated an economic impact of 460 million euros and more than 6,000 jobs in a decade, as announced this Monday by the mayor of the city, Ángeles Muñoz.

    This has been highlighted by the councilor in the presentation of the tenth edition of the annual event, which "has established itself as an incomparable attraction for the city", noting that the Local Government Board has today approved this procedure, " that will avoid us having to renew the permits year after year ”.

    In this sense, the first mayor indicated that "at the moment in which we have guaranteed the concession of this space by the Junta de Andalucía, our commitment is to continue going hand in hand and maintain the perfect pairing between Marbella and Starlite to make it an obligatory event every summer ”.

    The first mayor recalled that from the outset the Government team "clearly opted for a risky and exciting project undertaken by two people –Sandra García-Sanjuán and Ignacio Maluquer-, who knew very well the potential of Marbella".

    "We have not been able to have better results," said Muñoz, who has emphasized "the creation of jobs and the generation of wealth", even last year, when "in the midst of a pandemic you had the courage to celebrate, following all the protocols against Covid-19, probably the only international music festival that was organized ”, he emphasized. At this point, she has opted for a program "that is not limited only to the summer, but that we can organize other events."

    For its part, the promoter of the festival, Sandra García-Sanjuán, has referred to the beginnings of the project, "which started with the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, ten years ago" and which has received throughout this decade 1,2 million visitors of 72 different nationalities, has generated more than 6,000 jobs and has had an economic impact of 460 million euros ”.

    Regarding the edition of this one year, the businesswoman has predicted that "it will be very special for the celebration of the tenth anniversary", ensuring that it will be the longest in history, since it will start on June 18 and end on September 4, the which will feature visual and aesthetic novelties, and will include an outdoor photography exhibition and the placement of star-shaped monoliths designed by the artist Roberta Lobeira.

    Along with the first mayor and the promoter of the festival, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Manuel Alejandro Cardenete; the vice president of the Provincial Council, María Francisca Caracuel; the general director of Starlite Festival, Javier Bernaldo, and the ambassador of the event, the model Valeria Mazza.

    The Junta de Andalucía will participate this year, for the first time in its history, in promoting the Starlite festival in Marbella, which will be held from June 18 to September 4, as highlighted by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Manuel Alejandro Cardenete.

    This has been pointed out by the regional representative in the presentation of the tenth edition of the musical event, where he has highlighted that the festival is a "safe and internationally prestigious" date.

    For her part, the vice president of the Provincial Council, María Francisca Caracuel, has stressed that this event "demonstrates the potential that our destination has in the leisure segment", while "it is an extraordinary proof that we are prepared to host events of great magnitude in the post-Covid period ”.

    The general director of Starlite, Javier Bernaldo, has argued that initiatives such as the musical event are "perfect for generating synergies and bridges towards new forms of tourism", while the model Valeria Mazza has stated that "it is not a recital, but of an unforgettable experience ”.
